Harold Robinson, one of North Carolina's most successful prep coaches in history, is in his fourth season as East Carolina's Director of High School Relations. The legendary Robinson, who accepted the newly-created position prior to the 2004 season, enjoyed an illustrious and distinguished 24-year tenure as head football coach at Williamston (N.C.) High School from 1979 to 2003 which reached a pinnacle when he was inducted into the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association Hall of Fame on March 27, 2007 The nine-time area, regional and state coach-of-the-year selection recorded a 231-94 (.711) mark while leading WHS to a pair of NCHSAA state titles, four runner-up standings, seven conference championships and 16 overall playoff appearances. He also contributed an active administrative role for the NCHSAA, directing 25 regional and sectional tournament while also serving on the organization's football advisory committee. Robinson earned many honors from the NCSHAA during his career, including Special Person Award (1995, 1997), Outstanding Male Coach (1989/regional 1988), People's Choice Award (2000) and the Citation Award (1994). In addition, Robinson also was President of the North Carolina Football Coaches Association (1994-95) while serving on the Board of Director's for the North Carolina Athletic Director's Association from 1985 to 1988 and again from 1991 to 1994. Robinson earned coach-of-the-year honors from the Associated Press (1999), Greenville Daily Reflector (1983, 1996, 2000) and the Washington Daily News (1982, 1995, 1998-99 and 2002). His involvement and contributions to the annual Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas has no equal, as he initiated and spearheaded several additions to the popular event All-Star clash. Robinson introduced game-week combines, the expansion of coaching staffs, the creation of a kid's mini-clinic and the appointment of a honorary head coach to the contest's festivities. Robinson's coaching knowledge produced an article in 1978, entitled "Stopping the Wishbone with 4-4 Defense", in the Athletic Journal and he was also credited with establishing the North Carolina Wing-T Camp (1994-2002). Selected as the Martin County Educator-of-the-Year in 1978, Robinson earned his bachelor's degree in health and physical education from East Carolina in 1972. He added a master's in health and physical education from ECU in 1973 and a M.S.A. Public School Administration in 2001. He and wife, the former Carlotta Pfau of Washington, N.C., are the parents of three grown children. |
